It is a secret for no one, that all social processes, any deeds of
anyone are regulated and limited by the law. Another axiom is that
every
law can be avoided or cheated because of bureaucracy and the power of
money. To fight with such a kind of unfairness the system of legal
services
was created. It helps low-income residents to obtain
equal
access to justice by providing them with advice and representation in
civil legal matters; advocating for their legal rights; consulting in
legal documents problems and conducting community education about the
legal issues that affect them. The first such company was founded more
than 50 years ago, and nearly 5 years ago an online legal advice
service had become available.
Today such communities of legal services house nine different legal
issues, each proficient in a different area of law: Community Economic
Development, including the Childcare Law Project; Consumer Law; Aging
and Disabilities Law; Employment; Energy; Family Advocacy; Housing;
Language Access; and Public Benefits, including the Advocating on
Behalf of Children project (ABC).
This range of activity enables to meet the many individual
legal
needs. At the same time, the broad legal expertise empowers to
have a profound impact on local and national policy as they help policy
makers understand the ramifications of policies on the most fragile
members of our society. The result is gratifying: millions of people
have already gotten the legal aid they needed and this service is still
alive. It really works, even the most low-income people have an equal
access to justice and that's great, I
think.
